Transforming Policing: Technology-Enabled Solutions for Safer Communities

Applying modern technology to traditional crime-solving methods is transforming policing, providing new ways to address challenges.
Policing is evolving with tools that automate tasks and use data analytics, AI, and machine learning to inform decision making and support investigations. In law enforcement, these technologies analyse large datasets—like crime records, digital communications, and surveillance footage— to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies, helping to identify patterns and resolve cases faster.
This paper highlights our latest law enforcement solutions, including AWARE (Analytics for Widespread Awareness & Risk Evaluation), frameworks for responsible deployment, and guidance on getting started with Akkodis to meet modern policing challenges.

This paper includes discussions of family and domestic violence, which some readers may find distressing. Please proceed with care, and seek support if needed.

Söze – Fighting crime with Data Whitepaper
Minimizing risks and improving outcomes in Police Investigations
Developed from the ground up in collaboration with Australian Law Enforcement Agencies, Söze is a powerful data analytics platform that enables police investigators to rapidly integrate and visualize vast amount of data from multiple sources and devices, supporting successful case building and prosecution. Built and tested with frontline investigators across the top 90% of differing crime types on real world investigations, Söze is a tool that augments Investigators, removes the burden on excessive data management and allows them to apply their training, experience and tradecraft to find information and persons of interest that can help them respond to threats and solve cases, faster. Visit Söze - The Advanced Digital Investigation Platform.
Crime is becoming increasingly complex and multi-faceted. According to the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, organized crime as just crime types costs Australia $60.1 billion a year, and new types of crimes are emerging constantly, enabled by advancing digital technologies and infrastructure.
Criminals are often early adopters of new technologies that create complex and data rich digital footprints at a scale that make it unsustainable for Police agencies to investigate with their current resources and tools. In this whitepaper we highlight some of the common challenges for Police investigative teams and explain how a platform like Söze can help.
Listening Device Plus (LD+)
A system built for the Police and Intelligence community to improve efficiency
Listening Device Plus (LD+) Infosheet

Listening Device Plus (LD+) is a system built for the Police and Intelligence community to identify the parts of recorded audio that contain voice, then transcribe and translate that voice into text. LD+ enables you to keep up with your lines by automatically providing voice to text, translation of foreign to English, keyword alerting and search capabilities. With LD+, one staff member a day can easily process a full 24 hours of Listening Device sessions and potentially two Listening Devices could be monitored by a single person if there is little voice activity. With little effort, and short processing time; the investigation has high quality, searchable product from each of your Listening Devices. A considerable number of staff are now freed to pursue other investigative tasks.
Bail Kiosk
Automating the bail reporting process, saving Police time and providing a better community experience
Bail Kiosk Infosheet

Bail Kiosk is an Attendance Recognition System that enables a person on bail to report via a self-service kiosk at a police station, instead of Reporting to Police staff at the counter.
Over 12 months, self-service Bail Kiosks save thousands of shifts, freeing up Police staff to focus on other Policing activities and providing better community outcomes.
Bail Kiosk utilises a device with a camera, facial matching technology, and integration with Police systems to automate the bail reporting process, saving Police time and providing a better community experience.
Yarning
Mobile App ‘Yarning’ - designed by WA Police Force in collaboration with Akkodis. Winner of the Global Microsoft Inclusion Changemaker – Social Impact award.

Aboriginal communities in Western Australia collectively speak more than 60 languages. Communication barriers have been a long-term challenge for these communities when accessing public and social services and when engaging with law enforcement. However, the ‘Yarning’ mobile app is now breaking down these language barriers and fostering better interactions between Aboriginal communities and the Western Australian Police Force (WAPF) officers.
Built on Microsoft Power Platform, Yarning was created by WAPF’s Aboriginal Affairs Division in collaboration with Aboriginal Interpreting WA, Akkodis and Microsoft. Akkodis won the Microsoft 2022 Partner of the Year – Social Impact award for the development of this app.
“The Yarning app is the first of its kind in Australia. By providing key messages in Aboriginal languages, we are being fair and showing our care for Aboriginal people.”
